How Is CEREC Technology Transforming the World of Dental Restorations?

CEREC At Stanley Street Dental

Visit Stanley St Dental to discover the latest innovation in dentistry: CEREC dental restoration. This game-changing technology is here to revolutionise the way you go to the dentist, getting your oral health back on track the quick and easy way. Allowing our dentists to create custom quality crowns, inlays, onlays and veneers for you in one visit, CEREC uses modern computer processes to craft your perfect restoration.

What is CEREC?

CEREC, or Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramic, is the newest and most advanced way of crafting dental restorations right here in the clinic. Perfect for repairing dental damage caused by injury or decay, CEREC allows us to fit you with a permanent custom restoration in a single visit. Instead of having you bite down into uncomfortable impression material, our specialised digital scanner captures a detailed image of your tooth (or teeth). This image is then processed using Computer-Aided Design, or CAD, to create a highly accurate 3D model of your restoration. We’re able to use our milling tool to craft this custom-made restoration right then and there, sending you home with a sparkling smile.

How Does CEREC Technology Work?

When you come into Stanley St Dental to restore damaged or missing teeth with CEREC, you can expect us to follow these easy steps:

  1. We’ll use our specialised digital scanner to take a highly detailed image of your tooth or teeth.
  2. Then, we’ll use CAD to turn this image into a 3D model of your mouth, which will allow us to create a custom dental restoration design.
  3. Our milling machine will use this custom design to create a highly accurate restoration made out of ceramic—right here in the office.
  4. After we’ve hand-finished and polished your restoration to perfection, we’ll place it in your mouth and make any adjustments. Once your new crown, inlay, onlay or veneer is ready, we’ll fit it in the same visit!

How Long Does It Take To Get a CEREC Restoration?

CEREC restoration is an in-clinic, single-visit process! Taking as little as an hour, this innovative technology allows us to create your custom restoration while you wait. You’ll leave Stanley St Dental with your new permanent inlay, onlay, crown or veneer at the end of your appointment.

What Are the Advantages of CEREC Technology?

1. No More Unpleasant Impressions

Unlike impression material, our digital scanner can capture an image of your entire mouth in a matter of seconds. Say goodbye to the time-consuming, stress-inducing, uncomfortable feeling of biting down on a tray filled with sticky impression material.

2. No Follow-Up Appointment Necessary

We know your life is busy and it can be hard to fit dental appointments around your day-to-day schedule. But with CEREC, you can get everything completed in one session and walk out smiling. There’s no need to make a follow-up appointment to swap your temporary crown for a permanent one! Plus, if you’re nervous about coming to the dentist, a one-and-done appointment helps to reduce some of your stress.

3. It’s a Long-Term Solution

Backed by research and real-world use cases, this trusted technology is designed to give you long-lasting results. CEREC restorations aren’t like the fragile temporary fixes that can cause further dental issues and are difficult to care for. At the end of the appointment, you’ll have your highly durable, permanent restoration fitted and ready to go.

4. It’s Just Like the Real Thing

Unlike traditional tooth replacement options, including crowns, your new CEREC restoration will look and feel like your natural teeth. There’s no dark edges or translucency, and the hard-wearing ceramic is the closest match out there for your real teeth. Ceramic also doesn’t have that off-putting taste you might associate with metal crowns and fillings. Now that’s something to smile about!

5. It Preserves More of Your Natural Tooth

Where some restoration procedures require the decayed or damaged tooth to be significantly altered or removed, this treatment allows us to preserve as much of your natural and healthy tooth as possible for a true natural look.

Are There Disadvantages of CEREC Technology?

While there are numerous advantages to CEREC dental restoration—who doesn’t love only making one dentist appointment?—there are a few other factors to consider:

1. It’s a Highly Specialised Service

CEREC technology requires a high level of education and training, plus state-of-the-art equipment. With this in mind, you won’t be able to find CEREC at just any dentist office. That’s why our experts are so proud to offer this custom service here at Stanley St Dental.

2. It May Be More Expensive

In some cases, due to the specialised training and equipment required, CEREC restorations may be more costly than other methods of dental restoration. While multiple dentist visits and sending impressions to laboratories may be cheaper, if a high level of accuracy and speediness is important to you, you may still prefer CEREC.

3. It Involves Specific Materials

Due to the fabrication process, where we use our milling machine to craft your custom restoration, CEREC limits the material options available. CEREC technology can only be used to make restorations out of ceramic. If you would prefer to use a different material, our team can recommend a different restoration process.
